Grand Bahama Island: It’s not just another pretty place. Soon to be home to the newest Ginn ResortsSM community, Ginn sur Mer,SM this eclectic Caribbean destination offers educational sight-seeing trips, exciting outdoor adventures and a variety of culturally rich experiences the whole family can enjoy. From “mornin’ mornin’!” (the locals’ way of greeting each new day) until well after dark, Grand Bahama Island is not only an inviting place to visit, it’s the ultimate second-home destination.

GET WET!
The crystal-clear waters that surround Grand Bahama Island lend themselves to some of the most family-friendly snorkeling and scuba diving in the Caribbean.

DIVE IN

One of the oldest dive resorts in the world resides right in Grand Bahama: Unexso Grand Bahama offers a wide variety of underwater outings that can accommodate most everyone — from the intrepid, experienced scuba diver to the novice explorer. Highly trained diving instructors are ready and able to provide the kind of close underwater encounters that are sure to create memories that will last a lifetime.

For those without any prior experience, the easiest way to enjoy an underwater tour in Grand Bahama is with a Shallow Water Dive. The equipment is lightweight, and the training, provided by Unexso, is brief and easy.

For those who desire a more interactive dive, Unexso also offers close encounters with dolphins — an exhilarating experience. A Dolphin Experience Lagoon provides the perfect setting to touch, take pictures of and learn about these remarkable mammals. The more adventuresome can opt to swim and interact with the dolphins in the protected lagoon waters. Finally, open-ocean dives provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with the dolphins in their natural element. Be amazed as they perform trained behaviors, prompted by hand signals, all in the open waters of the Atlantic. Unexso also provides wreck dives, shark dives and even night and cave dives.

INTO THE SEA

Not ready for total submersion? Try an island snorkeling tour.

Deadman’s Reef, which offers some of the best snorkeling in The Bahamas, is conveniently located near the West End and provides hours of fun for the whole family. Home to Paradise Cove beach resort, Deadman’s Reef is one of the few snorkeling spots on Grand Bahama that is easily accessed directly from the beach — less than 200 yards from shore.

“About 100 different types of fish — too many to mention, as well as 20 different types of coral!” says Paradise Cove owner and operator Barry Smith. “Eagle rays, turtles, angel fish, queen trigger fish and many others are all around us.”

Whether you’re viewing the colorful marine and plant life that lives in the shallow reefs or exploring the extensive inland canal system or underwater caves, every adventure includes all your equipment and is sure to provide a close encounter that will not soon be forgotten.
